Preparing for Your Family Beach Portrait Session
I’ll help you prepare so your session feels effortless. My goal is for you to arrive excited knowing every detail has already been thoughtfully planned.
From wardrobe selection to session timing, you’ll receive guidance every step of the way. Styling recommendations for your entire family, with outfit coordination. I’ll help you choose colors, styles, and combinations that photograph beautifully ensuring everyone looks cohesive.
Whether you’re visiting the Jersey Shore for a family vacation or you’re a local family returning to your favorite beach, I’ll help make the experience easy from start to finish.
What to expect at your family portrait session
I photograph during the last hour before sunset, when the light is soft, warm, and beautiful. My style includes capturing natural moments and some posed portraits. We’ll spend time walking along the beach, playing in the sand with the children, and creating moments together, while also capturing the classic family portraits you’ll display in your home. All sessions include a range of groupings, and individual portraits. With children ages 3-8, I expect an unexpected moments and honestly, that’s where some of the best photographs happen! My goal is to create an experience that’s relaxed while capturing authentic smiles, laughter, hugs. After your session, we will schedule your viewing appointment on Zoom where you and your family will see your portraits and pick your favorite images. At that time, you can choose to purchase your images as either individual portraits starting at $289/image or in folio collections starting at $950. My complete collection includes all of hour photographs at full resolution plus complimentary fine art product. What you select is entirely up to you. You only buy what you love.

Once your session is reserved, we’ll schedule a phone consultation to discuss everything in detail from selecting your beach location and confirming the best sunset time to coordinating wardrobe, preparing the children, and answering any questions you may have.
My goal is to make the entire experience effortless, enjoyable, and beautifully planned so that all you have to do is arrive, relax, and enjoy a memorable evening with the people you love.

The Session Fee is $195 and it includes: Pre Session Personal Styling Consultation (for you and those you are being photographed with) A fully directed sunset photoshoot at the beach with multiple groupings and individual portraits. Full Professional Retouching is included. Zoom Reveal & Ordering Appointment Photographs are not included and are purchased at your reveal and ordering appointment once you see your finished photographs. Portrait Credit: Your $195 Session Fee includes a $50 Portrait Credit toward the Signature Collection or a $100 Portrait Credit toward the Heirloom, Legacy, or Complete Collection.

What time do beach portrait sessions begin?
Beach sessions begin approximately 7:15–7:30 PM, depending on the sunset time. We photograph during the final hour before sunset when the light is soft, warm, and incredibly flattering. This “golden hour” creates the beautiful, glowing portraits that make beach photography so timeless.
What happens if it rains?
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, don’t worry we have several options. We can reschedule your session to another available beach date, move your session to my beautiful Castle Studio in September, apply your session fee toward next year’s beach portraits, or, if needed, I’ll happily refund your Creative Fee. My goal is to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible. What should we wear?
Soft, timeless colors always photograph beautifully at the beach. Whites, creams, tans, soft blues, and muted coastal tones create a classic look that never goes out of style. Once your session is booked, I’ll gladly offer wardrobe guidance, outfit inspiration, and styling suggestions to help everyone look coordinated and feel great.
What if my children don’t cooperate?
Children usually love being at the beach, and I build plenty of flexibility into every session. Rather than expecting perfect poses, I will ease into the photo shoot start with walking photos of the family. We can play ring around the rosey, and slowly guide the children throughout the evening. Spontaneous hugs, giggles, and unexpected moments become the photographs you may love the most.
How long does the session last?
Most sessions last up to one hour, giving us plenty of time to explore the beach, capture a variety of family combinations, and create both natural candid moments and timeless portraits without ever feeling rushed.
Which Jersey Shore beach is best for large family portraits?
Honestly, I love them all. Whether you’re vacationing in Spring Lake, Cape May, Lavallette, Long Beach Island, or another Jersey Shore town, I believe the best location is the one that’s meaningful to your family. The memories you’ve created there become part of your photographs.
Can grandparents and extended family participate?
Absolutely! Some of my favorite sessions include grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and even great-grandparents. Multi-generational portraits become treasured family heirlooms, and I’m happy to photograph families of all sizes from two people to twenty or more.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes! I love when families include their dogs. Please note that some Jersey Shore beaches have seasonal restrictions for pets, often until September 1 or October 1. Be sure to check your beach’s regulations before your session, and we’ll happily include your four-legged family member whenever permitted.
